What is FAFSA?
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is a form provided by the U.S. Department of Education (ED). It can be completed by current and prospective college students (undergraduate and graduate) to determine their eligibility for student financial aid. This form is the first step in applying for most federal, state, and college financial assistance for students. Despite what the name may imply, it’s not just for federal student aid.
Almost every student may be eligible for some form of financial aid. Even students who don’t qualify for need-based aid may still be eligible for loans or scholarships. Once your FAFSA is completed, signed, and submitted, it will be processed, and your results will be sent directly to the schools you listed on the form and to your state agency. Apply early for the most financial aid options!
